I don't really think there is one specific way 'a Devialet has to be used'. USB is a low overhead protocol, a-synchronous in it's implementation inside the Devialet. I find USB to perform better than AIR ethernet (which I found to be better than WiFi) when using an optimized PC. Using a standard PC AIR ethernet was better than USB, but you can take the quality of USB a lot further in the optimizing process.
