Devialet DAC quality equivalent?
#6
(15-Jun-2015, 20:36)kenreau Wrote: Yes, I can't argue with that.  Other than the TotalDAC DAC I've read a few using here, it appears most use the internal Devialet DAC.  I know the cost of the TotalDAC.  I guess I was wondering if there is any consensus of at what price point, or appliance level makes a sonic impact significant enough to go with an outboard DAC.  For instance, the TotalDAC, the Berkeley Reference DAC, Meitner, Exasound, dCS Debussy, Esoteric D-01, probably worth it.  Auralic Vega, Benchmark, Myteck, Wyred 4 Sound, probably not.

What Confused and Thumb said plus a couple of comments:

To be honest the DACs that Chord have released over the last 18m are very good and also cheap (Hugo £1,400, 2Qute £995) and some say they rival the best DACs around.  I know people who have switched from expensive Naim streamers with integrated DACs (NDS - £13,000) to Mac Mini+Hugo (£2k) and others who have switched to Devialet and neither have expressed any regrets.

In my opinion the Devialet DAC is not the limiting factor in my system. I'm currently trialling an Aurender and the Devialet very clearly exposes the superiority of that source to the others that I've been using so far.  As others have reported there are even better sources available e.g. Melco N1Z and the Devialet clearly reveals their strengths too Smile
