Using the trigger input in home theatre setups

One use for the Devialet trigger cable is for dual mono set ups, when you want to use the inputs on the companion. When you do use a companion input, the trigger cable communicates between the companion and master to switch the direction of the dual mono SPDIF cable, which then sends signal from companion to slave, rather than the other way around. Effectively making the slave the master for this input. I am not 100% sure if this is the only way you can use the trigger input, however, the second 3.5mm jack input can be used as either a Toslink input or RS 232 control. See link:

EDIT - Just reading through my own link above, the trig in can be used for remote on / off. How or if this is compatible with a Yamaha AV unit, I will leave to the truly cleaver people out there.
