Just one other crazy thought, do check your speaker cables to ensure they are not by accident wired out of phase, either at Devialet end or the speaker end. My 400's did not require break in and sounded very good from the get go....

I don't suppose you could try a different pair of speaker cables? I am not taking crazy expensive, I use DH Labs speaker cables.
