Devialet working on new AIR

If AIR never existed, I still would have bought my Devialet 200.  It does sound that good.   And there are numerous other solutions for streaming (yes, another box) that and more on the way that can be had for a fraction of the price of a Devialet.   

Where Devialet is shooting themselves in the foot is by not acknowledging and addressing a problem they've known about for a long time.   Fix it, replace it, or call it a legacy product.  But by continuing to market it as a feature while seemingly ignoring the growing number of support problems and disgruntled customers is just bad business.  

AIR was not a factor in my purchase of my 200.  My #1 factor was sound quality.   But a close #2 was that this was not a point-in-time product.  I bought it because they would continue to evolve it through firmware improvements as technology advanced at no additional cost to me.   But their handling of AIR is a red flag and I can understand why potential buyers reading these threads may have cause for pause.  That's unfortunate because it is a great product.

In fact when I bought my D-Premier 5 years ago Air did not exist, nor was there any wireless electronics in the equipment. By the time Air became available and they were supplying free issue wireless modules to customers I had bought a second D-Premier configured as dual mono. I fitted the wireless modules when they came and loaded Air. I had to fiddle about to get a reasonable wireless signal, presumably because the window in front didn't point towards the wifi transmitter.
Anyway with a bit of tuning I got Air v1, which was Mac only and used iTunes as the front end, working fine.
Then there was the "universal" V2 of Air, which caused far more problems for me but I eventually got to work OK. I use it with both my laptop and a dedicated to music iMac with few problems.
OTOH I still prefer CDs and LPs to any sort of streaming and am prepared to put up with the clutter.

Cluttered rooms sound better anyway, I have always found this and was pleased to see Floyd Toole and Siegfried Linkwitz say this too.
Mine may be a bit too cluttered though...
