Magico S1 and SAM
#11
I had Devialet 200 and Magico S1 for a couple of months. With these speakers, the effect of SAM wasn't very noticeable. It was there, but I could happily live without it. S1's are precise speakers and, in my opinion, don't need SAM.

However, S1 is a speaker with low distortion. This means that with the low distortion equipment like Devialet, you can play them very loud without problems. Because S1 is also a small speaker for high volumes, there is a possibility to drive them too loud. SAM helps to protect bass drivers.

Now when I have Triangle Signature Deltas, which also are SAM compatible, I'm still not convinced about SAM. It extends frequency response, but so far I feel that it also makes bass more "muddy". I still have a break in period for the speakers, which means that the situation can change.
