If you use an internet box, I would recommend a cheap managed switch mainly because you can create Vlan (something you can do with a pro router)
I have a managed switch already! I was interested in seeing whether anyone had theories as to why managed should sound better than unmanaged (or vice versa). I did experiment with separate VLANs a few years ago but couldn't detect any sound quality differences back then (with a separate subnet on each VLAN). [edit] I might retry my tests. The switch I use is a 24 port TP-Link TL-SG3424 which is used for all my devices and is not dedicated to audio-only so probably less than optimal. I'm a former sysadmin/network engineer kind-of guy so like to have the ability to configure stuff if need be. The switch unfortunately has a built-in SMPS (probably) power supply.
