Devialet app on Ipad a bit wonky
#18
(18-Jul-2018, 21:32)Confused Wrote: There seems to be two or three recent threads covering issued with the iOS remote at the moment, but I have decided to post in this one because it contains slightly more humour than the threads.

OK - First the serious bit.  I have posted before stating that the iOS remote works perfectly on my system but only with some devices, with other devices it is unstable.  So today I updated to the apparently renamed only "Expert" remote on the iPad AIR 2 and the iPhone 6 Plus that were both very unstable with the app.  Tonight, they both work perfectly, 100% stable, no issues.  So based on a sample of two previously unstable iOS devices, I would say that the new app does contain bug fixes and is now stable.  Good work Devialet!

In a way, this is a shame, because I was planning a highly scientific experiment with some help from @K4680.  This was my theory; for K4680 the app works perfectly on all devices, for me the app is (was) unstable.  This could be for two possible reasons:

1. K4680 is a specialist IT consulter, and his network and iOS devices are set up correctly, so they work.  Whereas I am an IT idiot, I am doing something stupid, hence my devices do not work.
2. K4680 is lucky, I am not an idiot, but I am unlucky.

To prove which of the above is correct, I requested that K4680 provided me with six random numbers, within a stated range.  Being the good sport he is, he obliged by providing the numbers.  To be clear, K4680 was choosing numbers completely at random, he had absolutely no idea what they related to.  I think he guessed they might be horse numbers, but he did not know which day, event, race or anything.  It was important that K4680 had zero facts or information because this is a test of being lucky, not a test of skill.

To ensure this is scientific with no cheating, I can advise in advance that K4680 has selected the following for the Newbury Flat meeting 20th July:

2:00 - Dark Poet
2:30 - I'mFreezing
3:05 - Lady Bergamot
3:35 - Barbill
4:10 - Hawridge Flyer
4:40 - Tai Sing Yeh

I only needed the first six races (there are seven), because selections are for a Tote "Placepot" card.  The rules for this are that all six selections need to win or get a placed position (1st or 2nd if there are 5 to 7 runners, 1st, 2nd or 3rd if 8+ runners)  I have already completed the Placepot card for a massive stake of £5 of my own money.  If these come in, we could win big.  This is long odds stuff, and to win is very unlikely, but if it is a win, I shall contact K4680 to agree on a charity to donate the money to.  Well, I say that to win is unlikely, but what if K4680 is indeed very lucky indeed?  We will see on Friday.

Meanwhile, it occurs to me that Devialet has fixed some bugs in the app and now it works, so 90% of what I have written in this post is not scientific at all, but is in fact total and utter nonsense.

For the record, the first two races at Newbury are Plus 10 Novice races, which are notoriously unpredictable so picking by random might be the way to go!

Apologies for polluting this thread with utter nonsense, but as the issue appears to be solved now, I thought I might get away with it. Angel
