Searching for more trebles
#1
Hi.
For some time I'm searching for a solution to my problem, and I thought it might be a good ideea to post it here, maybe someone can help me.
I have a pair of Phantom II 95 db.
Placement is on the wall using geko wall-mounts, left and right from the tv. This is fixed and non negociable - it's called "the wife factor".
My main source for them is my tv - an LG oled new generation.
I use the optical output from the tv to the Phantoms.
From the Devialet app - I keep the eq with trebles on maximum.
Until recently this was my only source ... tv to Phantoms via optical.
Listening to youtube mostly, plus some flacs that I have on my tv's connected hard drive, using the tv's media player, all controlled by tv's remote (except the phantoms volume).
All in all it was ok ... I draw my conclusion that the Phantoms have less treble than my taste and that was it. I still had an enjoyable experience with them, and more trebles remained just a dream.
Until recently ... when I discovered that bluetooth streaming is not what it used to be.
When I streamed music from my phone to the Phantoms using bluetooth I discovered no differences in terms of quality when compared to the optical input from the tv.
But there was one difference ... on my phone I've installed Poweramp Equalizer, and all the streaming to the Phantoms is with this eq on.
I was able to boost my trebles and found that the Phantoms ARE CAPABLE of more trebles.

Now my question is ... what can I do to have this treble boost also when I listen from the TV ?
I can not use the eq from the tv, optical output is not affected by this eq.
I think my only solution will be to add a dac between the tv and the Phantoms.

Does anybody knows if I go out from the TV via hdmi earc - the eq from the tv will be operational ? Currently - with optical out I have no eq or volume control from the tv (I don't care about volume control, I just want the eq).
I have many question marks here, and very little to gain, as the Phantoms do have a dac inside, and everybody sais it's a very good dac.
I have slim chances to improve the trebles by buying an external dac (like a bluesound node - with hdmi input), but I'm out if ideeas ...
Any input is appreciated.
Thank you

P.S. - I do have an ok hearing ... I have 2 pairs of headphones with 2 dacs - when I'm listening at my IFI Zen Dac + HiFiMan Sundara I love the treble response compared to Sennheiser 599 + Fiio E12 Dac.
I mean ... I can hear trebles, it's not that the Phantoms have it and I can't hear it.
No, the Phantoms lacks trebles ... by comparison a pair of Kef LS50w DO HAVE trebles. They lack bass compared to the Phantoms, but that's another thing ...
