A further update! I messed around with the configurator for a while, and as an experiment I tried selecting what would be the SPDIF link input on the companion as a digital pre-out, thus kind of forcing the Configurator onto the AES/EBU link input. Made up a couple of SD cards, and yes! It actually works! Having wasted many hours on this, getting rather annoyed and frustrated, I shall now spend a happy half hour sending another configurator related query to Devialet.
Back to the cable itself, it comes with an A4 fact sheet in French, section 3 of which states. "Les cables necessitent au moins une periode de "rodage" de 10 a 30 hours afin d'exprimer leurs qualities musicales. A l'issue de cette periode, l'evolution se poursuit avec toutefois, un processus ralenti avant d'atteindre leur pleine maturite."
Or per Google translate: "The cables require at least a period of "running "from 10 to 30 hours to express their musical qualities. At the end of this period, the Evolution continues, however, the process is slowed before reaching their full maturity. "
So, I'll let the cable run in for 10 to 30 hours before jumping to any conclusions regarding quality!
