To DPM or not? That is the question.
#53
I don’t know the sound levels since I feed my 220 set at 0db with the Hugo 2 at dark blue levels. The clarity is much better with DPM OFF listening to « Sway » Diana Krall FLAC 192/48. With DPM ON, it’s like going back to a Mojo.  For me in this game of diminishing returns « huge » is the difference between a Mojo vs a Hugo 2. The  dynamics are most obvious playing « Billy Jean » DSD 2.8. I’ve listened to a demo HD recording called « dsr005-01-2496.wav » found on the internet. The uprise in the beginning of each note appears faster more rhythmic with DPM OFF.

I had been listening a lot on my HD 800 directly plugged into my Hugo 2 (which I prefer to using my Bryston BHA-1 for clarity) because my kids are studying. Going back to my speakers and 220 was a bigger drop in resolution than I had remembered. Turning DPM OFF brought back that initial enjoyment I had when I first put this system together.
