Personally I think the Devialet is great only as a whole because of ADH. The DAC on it's own is nothing special and it's functionality is aged. Same goes for it's ethernet and USB inputs. The ethernet/WiFI inputs actually are quite worthless today because of the widespread issues with AIR. It's USB input, though better sounding than ethernet/WiFi when a good source is used, is bettered by it's conventional digital inputs. At least this has been my experience.
If one can find a better power amp I'm sure you could also find a better pre-amp and DAC to go with it.
That's an interesting observation. The DAC could have been upgraded in the Od'A but they didn't. I wonder if there's much to be gained there.
