Hi All

Hope this is the right area of the forum to ask, but have been offered a great price on a pair of 2nd hand Black Matte D-Premier's (approx. £4.4k for the pair). I have also been offered one new D200 for approx. £3.4k or £6.8k for a pair (makes a D400 mono set). Also been offered one new D250 for approx. £6.4k or £11.3k for a pair (makes a D800 mono set)

May seem a dumb question to some, but which way would you go:

• £3.4k - One new D200
  
• £6.8k - A par of new D200 (a D400 mono set)
  
• £4.0k - A Pair of used D-Premier's
  
• £6.4k - One new D250
  
• £11.3k - A pair of new D250's (of course makes up a D800 mono set)
  

Been told I can still upgrade the D-premiers to D250, but have to send back to France and cost per unit is £3k (of course £6k for the pair to upgrade), so this would take them up to roughly the same price as I have been offered the D800 mono set.

At present I'm leaning towards the pair of 2nd hand Black Matte D-Premier's for £4.4k

This is the one so you bought your D Premiers very cheaply because they had not been upgraded and now you want to get the 1000 on the cheap as well.

Well Sherlock you really seem to have an issue regarding myself asking about the upgrade prices. If I got the D-Premiers for nothing should I pay a different price than if I had paid full price from the start. I'm not asking to get anything on the cheap, but there will be other people who paid full price for original D-Premiers who may not see things the way you do.

My sour grapes comment was in relation to not understanding why it's such a big deal for yourself. People in the UK/Europe get gear cheaper all the time than we do over here in Oz, but I'm not on here having a go about that. I even mentioned on previous posts that I expect to pay an additional premium for going D-Premier to 1000Pro, but wasn't expecting to have to pay the price for both upgrades when I was only getting the one upgrade.

Even my dealer said he thought the upgrade prices for D-Premier to 1000Pro was over the top, but what would he know.

It seems as if it may be time for me to step out of Devialetchat for now, as if this is what it's like for myself genuinely saying I thought paying for a double upgrade cost seemed excessive (which is what my dealer also said) then it seems sour grapes to me. I didn't go trawling through your posts to find old posts to see if you got any good deals; glad you have the time to do that and it makes you feel better now.

On the surface it does seem a bit excessive however from a total ownership cost point of view it's probably about right.

Otherwise you'd end up getting a brand new 1000 Pro for under £10k, less the chassis obviously but yours is rather nice

I'm amazed at the prices you were quoted for your brand new 250 and 800, I paid a LOT more for my 800 (500 back in 2014). 

On the pricing front the UK is pretty bad though. We pay almost double the US MSRP for brands such as Magico, Wilson, Transparent etc. Even Devialet is cheaper on the continent.
