The one box simplicity is what attracted me to Devialet in the first place so I'm interested to hear how the 220Pro or 250Pro stack up against the dual mono versions. I'm still a bit sceptical they'd be able to compete though, what with not having the large power advantage given by bridged mode, plus advantages with electrical isolation.    A nice compromise in future, if Devialet could shrink the components somewhat, would be a dual mono in a single box.

I was once invited to Lawrence Dickie's house for a long demo of his beautiful Gyia G2 speaker which we drove with my Devialet 250 and 2xD250 in dual mono. Surprisingly the single D250 came out best (big surprise to me but this time I was reassured by having a pro confirming my impressions): superior soundstage, transparency, bass. We double checked the DEV dual mono setup and it was correct. I had a similar experience in the past with my Wilson Sophia 2: the single 250 was in that case as good as the dual mono. I'd love to hear how big an upgrade the 250 pro is vs the 250 expert: I am staying with a single box!

Well this should be relatively easy for all dual mono owners to test! Just reconfigure and compare! That's the beauty of a forum like this. 

Before I committed to the 500 I carefully evaluated all Devialet models at home with my (then) Sophia 3s. The Dual mono was the clear winner and a no brainer for me at the time. This was because I was running a full Linn Klimax system at the time and with the trade in I was pretty much neutral in terms of financial outlay.

I would say one thing however: the dual monos IMHO are very sensitive to the cable that you place between them. In particular many have supposedly experienced big gains with an RCA to AES connection, even Devialet were recommending this at one point for technical reasons (presence of a transformer at the AES input). Then there was talk of the Crystal SPDIF cable (that shipped with dual mono units) not being up to scratch although I never tested this myself. At the time (going back a couple of years) my dealer confessed that in dual mono demos he preferred to use a cheaper Transparent cable instead of the Crystal. My own experience comprised of going from the stock (unbadged) Transparent premium SPDIF to a Ref XL and being absolutely blown away by the gains to the point of not really understanding why and discussing this with Pedro at Absolute Sounds. If I recall correctly his claim was that the slave (oops sorry, companion) was very susceptible to jitter. 

I believe in fact there were some issues going back a while ago with the synchronisation of dual mono units which were corrected by a firmware update, I think the release notes mentioned something about correcting jitter in the companion. I do remember at the time there was some discussion around this on the forum with some users being unhappy with the dual mono performance. I should add that I was never affected by this issue, or at least I never noticed this.
