Spent some time doing a comparison. Here my results: Re: Melco/Dela vs. Mini?
I spent a hour or so comparing the Mac mini and the Melco with both headphones (Sen 700) and through my Ktemas. I played daft punk, Nora Jones and David Gilmore. All high Rez files. daft punk at 96/24, Nora jones at 196/24 and David Gilmore at 96/24. First let me give you a description of my equipment. 2010 Mac Mini with 8mg ram, music derived from an external FireWire HD and sent to my DAC via usb/spdif converter into coax input. I run decibel software. Now the Melco is connected via USB. Cables are both audioquest Carbon.

Now this is what you have been waiting for. Listened through the cans and the Ktemas and both resulted in the same results. The Melco hands down has greater depth, lower noise floor and space between instruments. The Mac mini pushed sound at me whereas the Melco provided to be engulfed into the music. Now I have poor hearing and really I should have my wife listen. Her hearing is much more acute. With that said, after a hour of listening I could hear a difference the Melco provided a better listening experience. $1500.00 difference, hmmm. Add the convenience, multiple options and the ability to upgrade along with better listening experience, I think so. I hope this helps. Again if possible audition and compare yourself.
