I do think that our ears get used to the sonic signature of our own system within the confines of our own unique listening space (which is main point of reference) and that's why it can often be easy to hear discernible differences between different systems and any component changes that are made.

Probably poor wording on my part, but it was the exactly the WoW moment that was missing. Over the course of 3 hours we swapped out a couple of components, played around with the positioning of the speakers, and tried to create a situation which at least came close to my unique listening space at home. (which btw is far from ideal) Don't get me wrong, the Gauder's are excellent speakers and I enjoyed every minute of the session.
