Devialet could have opted for an external server (a better version of a Dialog) but the trend in general is more integrated devices. So Phantom fits that idea and I guess Devialet's goal is to add renderer/server function which could be better than an external server but could also lead to more problems(thermal, noise). At least it was clearly stated that there will be no onboard file storage (except for OS etc.).
Is the new second USB port A type which would potentially allow to use an external USB drive or only a type B like the existing one?
