Painting Phantoms

I was searching for anybody that had wrapped the side plates of a Phantom l.
The plates of the large Phantom come off pretty easy and I do not like the gold it has out of the box.
The dealer told me some people indeed wrap the plates.

Is it hard to wrap the plates? Which brand did you use?

I have not wrapped the Phantom 1 plates but have taken them off and look easier than the Phantom 2s. 3M brand but any wrap will do. 

When you do wrap have a hair dryer and scissors handy. Heating the wrap a bit makes it easier to form tightly to the plates and scissors to cut away excess wrap material. 

Word of caution, with the Phantom 2 the drivers hit the excess wrap material so every so often I had to take off the plate and trim the excess wrap where it loosens. The Phantom 1 gap between driver and plate seems a lot bigger and doesn’t seem like this will be a problem.

Update on my Phantom 2 - i removed the wrap and plasti dip sprayed the plates matte black. So far so good!
