If I'm using uPnP on a tablet or computer, surely that is wireless?

If the uPnP is running from a server, which you can do with bubble, then it is all wired.

Anyway, since moving the Airport Extreme outside of the cabinet the problem seems to have resolved.

I had a brief email conversation with Mathieu Pernod this morning on this. He said that in his experience and speaking with other audio companies, most of the issues reported to them are network/internet issues rather than issues with the manufacturers' products. 

The very first streaming system I used (Linn Akurate DS) did not work properly because the ethernet switch I purchased from Maplin was not fast enough. Wasted a couple of hours because I went for the cheapest and saved £5.
