Cheap temporary streamer
#71
Just a quick update, after earlier positive experiments with Rune Audio, I really wanted to try Qobuz on my Pi and the simplest way to do this appeared to be to use software from Max2Play who provide integrated disk image downloads which include LMS and support for Hifiberry products:

http://www.max2play.com/en/max2play-image/

The installation was relatively straightforward though, as always with Pi projects you need to figure out some of the software settings yourself.  I suppose this is part of the fun  Wink

Anyway, the Qobuz plugin works well and SQ is certainly good enough for me to think about trying better cables and perhaps an LPS for the Pi...

If anyone is interested in the details of the set-up (and wants to save a few thousand on a streamer Wink ) let me know and I will post them here.
IMac macOS 10.15.3 (no link to Devialet Sad ) / MacBook Pro Retina OS X 10.14.4 / Linn LP12 / Devialet 200 Wilson Benesch Discovery.
Qobuz Desktop Latest Version / Audirvana 3.2.18 / Audirvana Remote / iTunes 12.9 / AIR 3.0.4 / Wi-Fi / FW 8.1.0 / SAM 50%

Here's one:

https://www.cambridgeaudio.com/products/cx/cxn#reviews

It's the price of a decent cable, has a splendid colour screen with an attractive gorilla on it, does internet radio, will play tunes from a usb drive or stick and has a nice iPad app! OK, you are paying for a DAC you don't need, but at the price, who cares?

All this and it has actually got some very favourable reviews recently. Will it sound better with a Devialet than AIR or a Melco N1A? Probably not. (Although it's probably more stable than AIR) But who knows until someone tries one?

Or for the super rich, one of these, which in addition offers AES/EBU output:

Second option has got my attention, problem is no way to hear it first. Every now and then I have the urge to forget waiting for Dialog and just buy a streamer.

(I note that ThierryNK posted in another thread that it is "really good", but he had not tested with a Dev.)

Looks very interesting.
