Phoenix has sent me an answer over PM. I will not divulge the details since it's a private message. If he chooses to not share the answer in public that's of course his choice which I'd have to respect. Smile

Is this a stretch too far?

Taken from the Lost recordings webpage.

The restoration and remastering work of the analog tapes could not have been performed as perfectly without the help of Fondamenta. With Expert, they managed to develop a unique process called Phoenix Mastering allowed us together to recover an incredible sound quality.

Did you use a Devialet 220 Pro instead of a Devialet 1000 Pro? I say it from what you see in the video... o it´s a Devialet 200?

So here is a question to Mr Phoenix. Was the music passed through the D200, and thus converted to PCM as part of the remastering process? Or was it just played on the D200 per the video and the remastering performed 100% in the analogue domain?

Phoenix,
Can you offer any news on a possible high rez digital release of these same music files?  The Sarah Vaughan sounded extraordinary.

I hope Phoenix does not object.

From the Fondamenta website

Phoenix is based on 4 steps:
1 – We clean and restore the physical condition of the analog sources
2 – We modified old devices and even built some of our own to perfectly read the sources
3 - converting the audio signals. What can be better than Devialet converters?
4 - treating it with new algorithms which allow us to delete flaws as whiff or crackles without any damages to the sound spectrum

To Wdw: Yes, it would be unthinkable to release these treasures only on LPs. We won't repeat the Wu-Tang Clan story with Shkreli! That's why the Cds and the digital will come later. Though, with every LP, you'll have a personal code to download the 16bit format audio files. But if you can, I warmly recommend you to buy the LPs: the quality is absolutely unique and no more than the 900 units will be made. Ever.

The Sarah Vaughan sounds extraordinary in my opinion too. But you didn't listen to the other ones... The work we managed to do on the original 1961 Peterson is completely stunning.
Concerning the Evans, it's a worldwide event as well: it's the only other recordings we know nowadays with Gomez and Dejohnette and in 1968, just after his Grammy Award.

Alandbush: exactly. We are working on a page dedicated to Phoenix which will be released in a few days.

@Confused: 100% analogue domain wouldn't mean "remastered". I see you coming: I know that some guys will tell you never do a double AD-DA conversion. There are some reasons to that. And they can be right but they ignore the gain we obtain on the other hand when you use the Phoenix process... By the way, it reminds me that when you study electronics, teachers will tell you to never combine a class A with a class D amplifiers as well ;-)

And Folks, yes, the lacquers will be very expensive because there are very expensive and very complicated to make but in my opinion, if you have the right devices to play them and if you have the chance to afford them, they are far the most amazing audio medium possible. It's really a lifetime experience.

Let me friendly tell you that you're wrong about Devialet: their ambition is not to earn some thousands of euros on some records... They definitely want to sell millions of amplifiers and speakers!

Don't judge us too quickly. Listen to these recordings and you'll understand why Devialet was thrilled about the whole project and why every major recordings company want to talk to us since a few weeks. ;-)

I can't wait for your feedbacks when the recordings will be released.

Best to all, Phoenix.
