I install the 10.0.2 couple of hours ago and so far it I hear it as a nice upgrade. I agree with Ralph that is just more. Interesting to see what I think by the end of the week to see if I feel that is over the top as some have found. I demoed a Nordost Fry 2 power cord a couple of months ago and loved it first in then sent it back as it was over the top. However I do find that the 10.0.2 has much better full range that the Nordost.

I mentioned earlier that, to my ears, this version is definitely providing a better sound-stage with clearer mids and highs without going too bright, but...
Maybe I am going potty, but I can't remember having to specifically select the source every time I start a session? I am sure the previous version 'remembered' the last setting used?
So damn annoying!

You can set that in the configurator. Under General settings.

I had the initial opinion that firmware difference is sound quality was all in the mind. But proven wrong as 10.0.2 to me evidently had better drive and oomph at lower volumes. However, with the 10 i felt that there was too much "d" and the magic of the "a" was all but lost. Went back down to 8, didnt like it and am now back happy at 9. To each his own i guess

Updated. Didn't detect much in the way of SQ difference - nothing that jumped out at me in my 5 min listen last night anyway. Then again 7.1 was my fav and its only laziness and the in built tinkerer in me that left me at 9, and now 10.
FWIW I like the new display tweaks - it feels more modern, although blue volume dots are less clear. The page indicators are useful.
All in all though underwhelming and disappointing that two major versioned releases in a row have zero reason to justify the increment. Adding new machines, or features specific to one model, is surely just a minor increment in any other walk of life. It's clearly done because it looks better in print - and implies they are sticking to their update cycle.

Startet with FW 8 so couldn't make any comparison so far with former versions. Though have to say that 9.X and 10.X all had quite a significant difference. It may also seem to be different on the used loudspaker (think SAM settings have been tweaked in these versions).

This thread is indicative of a potential problem in DV's approach. A change to the OS (for want of a better term) should have no material impact on the sound structure. The upgrade might be useful for
- fixing bugs
- widening the scope of compatible devices
- dealing with a change in technology (e.g. USB2 to 3)
- some improvement in operating function whether that is messing about with the display, controller or even some operating efficiency (bypassing weak component, heat management, whatever) = change in quantity (not quality) of output
The whole purpose of the configurator is to take your base station (OS) and apply/tweak the functionality you need. This is like setting up a drilling rig on rock and then attaching all your tools for microscopic accuracy then someone, overnight, moving the rig to marshland. Some of us will get (or perceive) an improvement and others the reverse. However, we will have all lost our "control" reference and the only way (as pointed out) of knowing IF this is really an improvement is to switch back and forth between 9 and 10 (or 8 for those who prefer that over 9). It's nonsense not least because it's impractical.
The mere fact that there is any division at all on whether this step is a sound quality improvement means it's a fail IMHO.
