Yes from a marketing POV, but just as irrelevant

Precisely: clever, but meaningless (just my opinion).

I personally found it very interesting. Caelin Gabriel is very open about his ideas and happy to interact with his customers on forums. I haven't personally tried Shunyata cables (until recently they didn't have a UK distributor) but have spoken to a few who have and most seem very impressed. The Triton/Typhon mains filtering products are supposed to be very good indeed.

Guillaume

I found the Shunyata article interesting but hardly convincing... Anyway, now my 200 has settled down I am prepared to try some different power cables although I admit I'm still very sceptical about the likely benefits.

Absolutely, as with all things hi-fi there's no substitute for a good home demo! If you can't hear a difference/or it isn't a decent improvement then you can save yourself some money. Smile

Interesting point re the Powerline. Having said that Naim have always put a lot of emphasis into power supplies haven't they?

Yes, systems can certainly sound completely different at home and at the dealers. I could put the "savings" towards a 400 Smile though I'm trying to resist the temptation of another multi-box system. I would really like a totally invisible Hi-Fi Smile

One of frustrating things about Naim is that their components often don't sound good unless you do add one of their power supplies - so a £3k streamer actually ends up costing£6.5k-£9k, a £4k pre-amp really needs a £3k+ power supply, a £2k phono stage needs the same.... Still, at least they do offer those options. The sometimes horrendous buzzing from their linear power supplies (which they have done nothing to address over the years) was another reason for my move to Devialet.

Hi Petter,

I know it's a bit rude to ask but please could you give me an idea of the cost of the Frey 2 that you had made. No problem if you would rather not say Wink

Thanks,

Philip

Ok, that sounds like good service from them.

I also had a problem when I tried to attach a photo though others seem to find it easy. I've been too lazy to try again.

Thanks,

Philip

Hi All,

Finally I am close to have my system installed in our new home. However currently I am looking at replacing my Kaptovators for my D400. I look for something with less grain in the top freq and resolution in the mids but have no chance of auditioning other cables than here and there and not in my own system.
Read a lot about the Sablon Coronas and wonder if they would serve as an upgrade. Been in contact with Mark at Sablon who says the Petit would serve the Dev's best.
Any opinion from you who have tested or run these in your systems?

And what about the differences between Petit and Grand Corona?

Mark also tells me that shorter version of all his cables sound tighter which would suit me fine as I prefer 3ft length and tighter sound.

However if buying I am out of the return policy so your opinions/experiences highly appreciated.

The Valhalla II PC is very nice but price wise I think it is over the top.

Other suggestions to replace my Kaptovators?

/Mike

Mark was kind enough to lend me two Sablon Corona Petits to try with my Devialet 250s. I couldn't hear any difference from my existing stuff - though you would need to try - but also the Petits would not fit under the Devialet 250 covers so they were a complete non-starter. I have what are originally D-Premiers from March 2011 and December 2011 and I don't know if the casework has changed on the D-Premier/250 since then (though I doubt it) and I know the 200 and 120 cases are difference and maybe more accommodating.

Thanks Ian,

As for not fitting under hood it is of no concern as I do not use the covers so no problemo there.
Problem for me is that I need Schuko and need to hear them in full bllom ie with Oyaide 004 and 004e. As Mark doesn't stoch 004e (schuko) I will buy full out. The Oyaide 004 makes big difference to any cable imho so having a lender pair with schuko Oyaide p029e is no option.
Did you test with the 004's ?

I've tried two sets of Sablon's test cables. I'm not sure which connectors were on the first sets but they were rectangular in cross section. The second "improved" ones use round Oyaides I believe but not sure which model. The improved ones (and I believe the ones that are in production now) were better (the the first were still very good) and I use one now.
I tried Gran Corona/Quantum Gran Corona and they didn't work so well with Devialet for me. I prefer the Devialet-specific Petit Corona from a sound quality perspective.
I had no issues with the top cover fitting over cable connectors on my 200 with any of the cables, though I don't actually use the top cover normally anyhow.

Hi Rufus and thanks for the input!

Well i do not use the covers either so the round version will not be a problem.

Could you please elaborate a bit what you found better with the Petit vs GC and QGC!
