ROON
#61
Couldn't agree more that Roon is a much better music player than what I had tried before on Mac and Windows. Its metadata capability though not perfect but good enough for my enjoyment on my local music library. And, Tidal integration is the best so far vs. Sonos and Bluesound.

The latest build 29 is more stable now. Looking forward to new features every week.

Found a very peculiar issue with Roon 1Build29, Tidal will stop loading/playing (with play bar swiping left and right) after awhile. I have to remove all Tidal database and cache, restart Roon and it will play smoothly again.

I think Roon is under-staffed, too. They are working on too many features right now which caused a lot of bugs added (every week). They should just stop adding new features and work on the bugs list till most solved before adding new stuffs.

im all over tidal already.

ive been reading over the roon forums and im pretty confused by their recommended practices in regards to servers and remotes.

from what i can gather they use a core server program which is where the music is stored and possibly the internet streaming is done from. that then goes to the remote pc which processes the sound or something and connects to the dac.

it sounds like a jplay dual pc setup to me. do you need to use 2 different computers or is the one ok because i dont quite feel like changing my setup from what ive got now!

I had to chuckle when I read this post.  As someone who has used Devialet AIR over the last couple of years, this comment had a strangely familiar ring to it!

To be honest, I'm not very sure myself on this server (Core) and remote stuffs. Running using just the Core is fine. If your PC/Mac running the core, your system audio output, AirPlay, Devialet USB and AIR can all be the global audio output. Which means, any remote can direct the audio output via the global audio output. And yes, Core manages and indexes all music library including Tidal. If you have Tidal subscription, you can select your Collection of music genres and Roon will include them into your Album library.

As for the benefit of Remote, one can use an Android tablet or Win8 tablet and be free from your desktop for songs selection and play. Everything the Core shows will be displayed on your Remote. Now come to the benefit of using local (and private) audio output on your Remote, this becomes scratchy. I'm not sure of the full benefit of using Remote to output to a private local audio output. If AIR is working flawlessly, maybe using a Win tablet can run Fidelizer and/or JPlay and AIR stream to your Devialet. I've yet to fully do any serious testing of the SQ benefit using such method.

when you use a remote, does the remote output the audio or does the core do that?

Your choice, you can play audio through a sound device on the core install or a sound device on the remote that you are currently interacting with.

Remember remote sound devices are private your core installation or other remotes won't see them.  You must be interactively on the remote to play through one of it's sound devices.

DR tone thanks for chiming in. i noticed you are active on the roon forums!

as long as i can use the core as the output device ill be fine because the same computer has acourate on it and it would be a bitch to have to change the setup around.
