Hi Silvertouran,
I also have j river on my nuc. I used to connect the nuc to an external dac, but I picked up my 2 golds last saturday.
For now I have just been wifi streaming tidal from the ipad.
Would you care to share your j river settings so I could access both my collection on nuc and use tidal?
Thanks a lot.
Kind Regards,
Stef

Thanks a lot I will look into that... but since I use Mac and that Jriver MC has just come out on Mac I hope there won't be too many bugs.
How do you send music from your Jriver to the phantoms ? Airplay ? ChromeCast ?

I send it from my computer to a USB Asynchronous DAC then optical to my Phantom. I hate Spark with a vengeance. I ended up buying the full jRiver with a $10 discount code BUS010. I haven't really played about with settings as I don't understand what most of it does TBH. My music is all on ALAC format so sounds good to me.

It's a well established fact that Bluetooth transmitted signals are compressed and thus theoretically are inferior to uncompressed signals. However, is that still so in practice ? Does the compressed signal actually lead to a noticeably inferior listening experience ? The only practical inconvenience I've experienced so far with Bluetooth is drop outs due to the transmission range or wifi frequency interference. Another annoying feature is Phantom's default volume settings for Bluetooth, set at 70, which is too loud - in case of my phone, I've got to keep the volume within a range between 1 and 5 out of 30 ...

When Spark is used, the audio signal is processed by the Phantom's hardware decoder.
The wifi + PLC bandwidth over Bluetooth is also better.
When Bluetooth is used, it's more like the music is streamed to the Phantom but sound processing was made by a software decoder aka codecs used by iTunes or other music players.
My best music player is Musicbee... Devialet should buy it instead of trying to create from the scratch this piece of shit called Spark.
