AIR 3 Beta for Mac
(12-May-2016, 12:28)Rufus McDufus Wrote: -18dBm? That's insane! I get between 4-5 bars of reception indicated in the AIR app and that's around -55 to -58dBm. And that's only about 1.5m away from the AP which is a triple antenna job.

As far as I am concerned, I noticed that above -30db, the results were less stable, and the production of white noise more likely. Therefore, I have installed my Master unit on the bottom shelve of my rack, and the Airport Extreme on the floor just below it (10 cm away). This is also part of the recommendations of a group of French Devialet supporters who carefully studied how to make it work reliably.

Part of the recommendation is to have an external switch to isolate the network traffic between the computer and the Devialet from your cable/telco box, in case you use a WAP, or in case you use an Airport device, to separate the two wave bands, dedicate the 2.4 GHz band to the Devialet and the 5.0 GHz band to the connection with the computer.

This way, you reduce the possibility of interference on the wave band of the Devialet and therefore the risk of white noise.

It seems we're in one of those infuriating situations where it works for some but not for others.

Which player are you using ?

What is the sample rate of your tracks ? Are they all 16/xx and 24/xx or 16/xx and 24/yy ?

The files were 16/44.1 and 24/96. I used both iTunes and JRiver.

88.2 version of Daft Punk's Random Access Memories was spiced with a couple of drop outs with Air WIFI. To be honest the sound is less detailed than with Auralic Aries through Totaldac's USB.

Has anyone got settings that work for Roon and Air 3, as last night mine kept locking up my Mac Mini after only 1 or 2 songs (couldn't even access my Mac Mini and had to reboot with button on back). I'm currently running Roon Server on my headless Mac Mini,

Changed settings again this morning and still locking up after only 2 songs played (the 2nd song was only half way through).

Having some issues initially with Audirvana + (2.5), but at the moment managing to stream Tidal via Audirvana to Devialet via Air 3 and no hiccups for the last hour.

Yes, seems as if there is major conflict between Roon & Air 3 that's causes lock up of Mac Mini (on my machine at least)

For reference the Aries has never had a single drop out although it is connected to the same wireless network.

Streaming 192kHz/24bits via Roon + AIR 3, observed tiny pauses. Then I went to other room where my MacBook was, and wanted to increase delay on AIR. Instead brought my MacBook and kept next to Dev and Airport-AE.

Played flawlessly again. Blame it on wifi issues. No change in AIR delay - It's at 500msec

Bottom line 192kHz/24bits - Ckecked and no drops. I don't have DSD to try so this is it. I'm done now for now.

Air3 WiFi now works fine, I can't comment about any improvements in SQ as it's been so long since I heard it as a source.

Fine until I select a file with a different bit rate which causes Audirvana and iTunes to sit there defiantly and refuse to load until I restart Audirvana.

So all in all, the Beta version giveth and taketh away.If nothing else it's a good test of memory trying to recall the differing bit rates of each file, and good exercise walking from room to room to restart Audirvana.

-40dBm is not strong enough. Mine is around -18dBm now.

I can get to -30dBm if I put an Airport Extreme on the shelf underneath the master, but my understanding, from the days when Devialet offered guidance, was that they considered a signal of -50dBm to be sufficient for wifi.

Nice work Jnan - very thorough!

I'm not suggesting you do it for the purposes of testing AIR, but if you ever need DSD files to try, there are some freely available at the 2L site in the 'testbench'. http://www.2l.no/hires/

why not just take away the  Airport Extreme (i did) and go straight with some cat 7/8 cabel from network router to a quality switch ,and from switch to devialet, i did that and eliminated the Extreme ,better sound quality and never had any problems whatever ,even Roon now works just great with new air over ethernet cable.
Next week a new switch is comming in the doors wit external psu, shal be funny to compare with the ol HP one.
