popping noise on phono input
#1
Hi all

I'm sorry if this is covered somewhere else - I searched but couldn't see it. I'm getting an intermittent popping noise on the phono input of my new (to me!) expert 200. I read that this is because WiFi needs to be turned off (my unit is also hard wired so that's not a problem) however when I do this in the configurator the configuration won't load and I also read that this is a bug and that you have to turn WiFi on. I do this and the configuration loads ... but then I get the popping! Is there a way in advanced in-device menus or even a web command, to turn WiFi off without doing it in the configurator.

I also read in this forum that there is an advanced setting in the configurator on the phono input to turn off WiFi whilst phono input is being used, but I can't find this.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks
Graeme

Thank you so much Axel. Now I feel very stupid but my phono input is (so far) completely noise free. Thanks again!

Pleasure. There’s a lot to get your head round in the configurator and it’s easy to miss stuff!

Thank you Penguino for posting and Axel for replying. You helped me solve an issue with my 140 on which I had given up a long time ago! I knew the weird phono noise it had to do with the Wifi standby but somehow I always thought it had to be on, not OFF... For 2 years I had 2 separate SD-cards (1 for phono / CD + 1 for streaming), now I could put all functions on 1 card. New life, and I guess I will be streaming much more from now on.

Now I'd like to understand: what's the point in leaving Wifi standby ON at all?

Hi there. Yes, you can do it all on one card. Regarding whether you need WiFi on at all, I can say that I have it turned off (you have to do this by pressing the WiFi system on the back panel in the advanced configurator, not by not selecting WiFi in the initial page as there has to be a WiFi network with credentials to allow the CD card to be recognized) but I have a wired connection as well. If you are streaming via your network (and I use a streamer coming in to one of the digital inputs, so I'm not streaming to the Devialet through the network) then you'll need some sort of network connection. Does this help?
