Firmware 12.2.12
#91
I am very very happy with the new firmware. After installing it and uninstalling Roon everything I need works fine. I have wireless connection between Expert and router and USB or wireless between Expert and Mac.

- For HQ digital files on my Mac I run on Audirvana with an Ansuz USB cable.
- Air can handle my 192 kHz files.
- For checking music I run Spotify premium at 320 kbit/s (wifi connection 50-100nMbit/s)
- Phono is connected to a Rega with Lyra Delos cartridge (noise levels ar low)
- My Primare BD32 universal player is also connected to expert.

When testing Roon I had a conflict with Devialet Air. Had to uninstal one of them.

Temperatures are normaly below 40 degrC.

But most important my Devialet sounds wonderful.

I, too, am delighted with beta 14. It effectively works perfectly with Air, Airplay, uPnP and usb.

I was hard-pressed to get it to misfire.

1. Playing with bubble uPnP on Android, pressing pause, switching to MConnect uPnP on iOS. Connect takes over the Devialet renderer and "releases" bubble uPnP, which then starts playing locally (i.e. sound coms out of the Amazon tablet).

2. I managed to get the iOS volume control to misbehave, showing mute when playing. I think this happened when switching uPnP players and starting up the second one having used mute via the remote. Pressed mute on the remote and the problem disappeared.

3. Qobuz 192/24 from an iPad via Airplay works badly. Qobuz 192/24 from a MacBook pro via Airplay works perfectly. Would therefore seem to be a problem with the iPad processor speed. It is a very old iPad.

I wonder how does this actually work. I think the Airplay is limited to maximum of 48 kHz, so is your iPad/MacBook downsampling the 24/192 kHz to 16/48 kHz or 16/44.1 kHz before sending it to the Devialet?

Yes beta 14 seems to work beautifully with everything I can throw at it and really is a game changer with sound quality.

It seems like Beta 14 is a good release, I'll probably try applying it tonight!

I just hope Devialet knows why it sounds so good... Wink

Cheers,
Bernard

It is downsampliing to 16/44. It is a 2014 iPad with M8 chip, now they are M10.

Airplay is very convenient for iOS and OSX users, but I have hardly used it in 15 years of using Apple products. I will not be buying Apple again. My iMac is 8 years old and works fine, I have an iPhone 6, but bought an Amazon Fire HD and if I do change phone it will be Android. Apple put in a new battery for £25 so the iphone is good for a few years yet.

Applied new DOS update yesterday to my 220. CD from my Oppo sound stunning; Auralic Aries on USB working as before - but now there's no UPnP and no Devialet Air that can been seen by Audirvana on my Mac. Rebooted all devices, rebooted network switch to no avail. Devialet shows as a UPnP device with network tools but is not recognised by Audirvana (3.2.7) - similarly AIR no longer shows up as on option in Audirvana preferences. Any suggestions out there?

Do yourself a favour and get a newish fast SD card, install when the machine is relatively cold and have either wifi or ethernet active, but not both (which would be pointless because either you have a router nearby or you don't).  After installing the software, disconnect from the mains, insert configuration card and reconnect power. Worked for me.

If it does not work perfectly, it is worth trying again, but the success rate seems very high.

No works for me on the oldest 2 GB SD card I have ever used and on a 4 GB Kingston. Just format as Fat32 and it will work, even when I used a MAC to do it for some one the other day.

I will install the latest firmware version if there is not a regression with DSD64 playback (someone reported they get white noise).

I currently can playback CD quality, high resolution and DSD64 files reliably and have not had any dropouts in over a year. I am using an ethernet connection to the Devialet. No issues with Roon at all. No issues with anything.

I would like to upgrade to get to the current version of the firmware if it doesn't introduce any regressions into audio playback. Currently, that is only via a NUC running Roon ROCK. The turntable is on hold for a month due to some system changes.

Thanks and apologies for being less than clear.

Hi baddog. Like you I have been using the beta12 because of issues with the Release Candidate. Yesterday I downloaded the beta 14 and all seems to be working fine - no issues with DSD64. Again, like you, I primarily use a  NUC running Roon ROCK.

@brit - thanks for confirming! I will install tonight and give it a spin.

p.s. and thanks to everyone else who have shared their feedback on the latest beta firmware release.
