MELCO

Have you installed the LS-25 yet, Dan?

Not yet I'm still using the LS-5 as they are well run in and I know them well so want to get used to this new set up, then run the LS-25 so I can see their addition to the sound.

Hi K4680, just curious when you said it sounds much better, what is the previous setup that you compare it to? I am considering the Melco NZ1H/2 as an NAS to store my music.

Hi tategoi, before I have a switch in between! Now it goes from the router via a lan filter to lan input Melco, from the filtered melco player output to the devialet! Everything wired with Audioquest Diamond!

So settling into a Melco/Devialet build. Updated to new beat this morning, new EW LS-25 speaker cable, Melco, A&K app as control point, SAM is on but set to zero.

K4680 what LAN filter are you using, might purchase one of these also.

The only thing I haven't managed as yet is that DSM Direct Player mode, bypassing all network goodies with ethernet direct from players out on Melco into CI board.

Hi dan46, I use the following filters:
http://shop.emosystems.de/Netzwerkisolat...EN-30.html

Direct Mode:
When you use this mode, the N1 not connected to the router. Control via the app is then not possible. Use with
Play the screen display and remote control of the Network Music Player to select music files. If no network music player is connected, music files can not be selected !! Sad

Thank you thats really helpful will track one down here :-)

Direct Mode : Yes it is not allowing any of the useful functions to work you can only select music from the front panel and you have only the N1 player output connected to the CI board. BUT the noise floor is quite dramatically reduced, this may not be for everyone but I notice a real drop in noise, creating an even cleaner playback. I would just like to try this option to see if the Devialet responds the same way as my previous NAIM system did while in Direct Mode, but it seems I cannot as yet? Maybe I need to fix IP address in both units?

Hello, fixed IP address brings no success! If Devialet in, My Music, extends the option to other drives, not just the files on iPhone or iPad etc. it would work!

Ah, scratches head.... The Melco acts as the server/PC in this mode I assume, pushing the files to the Devialet (rather than the other way round with Devialet pulling the files).
If the Melco has fixed IP cannot the Devialet then mount (like any IP connected device) the Melco as such with same IP, not then requiring any UPnP handshake?

Hi, check out the devialet app "My Music" which files you can find. Activate WiFi on Devialet!

Reading up on Isolation for networks and some thoughts are it does change the sound but can soften the high frequencies a little.

I see this Cat7 cable from SOtM

https://audiobacon.net/2017/03/16/sotm-d...t7-review/

Fibre isolation comes in also, but there doesn't seem to be a solid consensus some say it is different but not necessarily for the better, others seem to think it helps.

Maybe another thread, but ethernet cabling has been well covered, is the new SOtM cable anything new then?
