Can anyone tell me why the device is called Dela in Japan and Melco everywhere else? I know the parent company is Buffalo. I also know the history of Melco in Japan, but where does Dela come from?

Dela and melco are the same thing. Dela is the label used in Japan and melco everywhere else. Was talking to a hi fi shop in HK. They were looking into importing dela. But buffalo said they have to talk to melco in UK.

Next time I head to a hifi shop here in Tokyo I will ask, but after more thought I believe this may influence the decision to call the device Dela versus Melco in Japan.
Melco is a Japanese company producing hifi equipment in the 70's. During the computer age they transitioned and became buffalo. Perhaps in japan they do not want to call a piece of hifi equipment Melco to be confused with the equipment made in the 70's.

In Japan there seems to be other companys that looks very much like Melco inside but a little bit better to me.

Interesting, price is somewhere between the 2 Melco models, can't see if the USB can be used with a DAC or not though, if not then it isn't much use with a Devialet.
