Main optical input on 250Pro supports 192kHz

Hi all

I just discovered that the optical input on the 250Pro supports 176.4 and 192kHz. The one close to the USB input is the one I am using.
I use Roon (trial) to upsample and connect to the 250 via a microRendu/Mutec. I broke the SPDIF cable I was using and while repairing it I connected Mutec to Dev. with optical. It works! (shows correct sample rate in the Devialet display too)
I hope this is something Devialet has done on all upgraded amps. Dialog and Phantoms support 192kHz on optical so Devialet has probably found a Toslink part that handles the high sample rates.

Yes the Pro does optical up to 192 and it sounds relatively better than before. When I upgraded my D-Premier to D250 it stop working at 96 and I had to return my unit to Devialet to get a input module installed which worked at the promised frequency. I think of the inputs which benefitted of the pro upgrade most is USB.

I checked the amplifier specs at Devialet's web. It actually states that the optical input supports up to 192kHz and the combo Toslink/RS232 96kHz. Duh! Pays off to read manufacturer info some times!

What makes you think that?  Do you have any specific observations?  By the way, I do agree that the USB appears to have improved, although based on the information provided by Devialet there is nothing to indicate any change with the USB implementation.  So your comment was interesting to me.

This conversation of how USB has improved on an amp that sounds different than the original intrigues/confuses me. The only way this could even be measured is: less of a difference between USB and Air or less of a difference between USB and AES.

Maybe the improvements in the heart of the amp itself has reduced it's susceptibility to less than stellar particular input. Evening out the input playing field so to say.

I can only speak for myself, but I came to the conclusion that the USB implementation was better after trying a quick head to head check of the microRendu direct via USB versus microRendu to Mutec to AES/EBU.  I had performed this test on the 'old Expert, and latterly on the Pro.  OK, hardly definitive proof, but based on this I do think that there is less of a performance deficit running direct to USB on the Pro than I had experienced on the Expert.
