Current D200 price in Sweden is about Euro 8300 (Devialet homepage 6990).
It's probably no consolation to you but the price in the UK is nearly as high as in Sweden. This is partly down to the mark-up the distributor adds and partly due to the strong £. The last UK price I saw for a D200 was £6,390 (= €8,170) whilst the european price is €6,990. That's a 17% premium.
Oxford A.C. announced on here that there has recently been a price reduction in the UK to reduce the effect of the strong £ but my dealer has no information about this.

Sad to hear as this should not be the case according to Devialet with exception of VAT differences. Devialet knows this but do very little to pressure the importers and lose sales with a new importer. My 5 cents.
FYI, I didn't pay more than mainland Europe price but that is another story.

Thanks Guillaume, that's interesting and a move in the right direction It's obviously tricky to keep UK prices completely in line with those in the euro zone given currency fluctuations but I must admit that I resent having to pay a 9-10% premium basically for nothing...

I'm not sure if I could actually persuade you to eat your Devialet, but I have had a response from Devialet that confirms that the RCA to XLR route is indeed optimal for sound quality. No specific mention of the Chrystal cable, so I guess we can let you off. This leads me to thinking about giving this try. I did think of getting an old SPDIF cable, cutting off one end and soldering on a reasonable quality XLR, a cheap and easy way of at least giving this a try. However, this would be a 75ohm cable? Should it be 110ohm? Would it be better to buy an XLR to XLR cable and graft on an RCA? Obviously you could make the whole thing from plugs / cable, but I'm just looking at a relatively easy way to give this a try. Any ideas anyone?

Yes I've heard that before.
Which begs the question if this is the case then why do they not supply the optimal/correct solution? It really doesn't make much sense at all.
Interestingly enough our friends across the channel have had some success using a factory made hybrid RCA/XLR cable, I think I posted about this before. The company is Audioprana and the prices seem quite reasonable. Patcam, care to comment?
Personally I'm sticking with my S/PDIF as it sounds fantastic.

I've mailed with Devialet and they wrote that is was important to use 75ohm cable of high quality on the rca - xlr cable.
It's a little strange that they still recomend this rca-xlr cable, and claims this is the most optimal cable when it comes to sound quality, when they now provide new 400 and 800 buyers with a rca-rca cable???

I think because a RCA to RCA cable allows the use of companion inputs.

I don't understand how using a 75 ohm cable into an input that should be optimized for 110 ohms is optimal for sound quality.

I mailed Thierry several times on this topic and either I had a nonsense answer or none at all. The closest Thierry came was probably when he wrote that the Devialet proprietary solutions take care of such issues.
As I said before on this forum, I do think that their recommendation for digital XLR has been one of quality (the plugs) but as you say a 110 ohm designated input with 75 ohms ???
It would be good for once if Devialet could announce clearly what they see the best solution. However I do not think they know anything at the moment as they are busy running for a bigger market.
From my standpoint I would like to link my units with AES/EBU - AES/EBU (but for some reason the AES/EBU is an input only function).
Time will tell (I hope)/Mike
