Mutec MC-3+ USB
For those who own the MC3+USB, can you please let me know if it's a fuse holder on top of the IEC inlet? Sorry for asking but I can't find a clear picture online to confirm that. If so, what's the specs of the fuse?

Also, any budget AES cable recommendations other than DH110?

Im about to pull the trigger!

Thanks!

The fuse is internal on the SMPS board and hard wired so can't be user replaced.

PS: I and others have bypassed (I have even removed it completely) the internal SMPS and are feeding it power from a HQ linear PSU. This does involve some soldering.

Antoine actually posted an excellent picture of the power supply in his system thread:

I am currently considering a similar modification and wiring in a decent LPSU.  Although to be honest, I am a little reluctant to modify an item still under warrantee, plus, SMPS or not, the Mutec sounds absolutely superb anyway!  So I don't see this as an urgent must do upgrade.  One day maybe!

Alpinweissm,

That thing above the power inlet is the mains switch - it's pretty stiff too.
I found a pair of chord chorus XLR cables and used one of them to connect to the Devialet - it seems to work fine and way better than USB all the way through (excluding the MC-3+ that is)

Cheers,

It's a saying, meaning you can't compare the two. The Mutec is a USB converter and re-clocker while the Auralic is a streamer.

It's even very likely that the Mutec will improve the Auralic when it's connected to any digital output of the Auralic.

Still have my question. Who compared AIR 3 and MUTEC ? In my system AIR 3 is as good as the Moon (with excellent cables). Since the Mutec is a hit it should be better than AIR ?
