New beta firmware 7.1.3 released
Same here! Bass is better defined and deeper in my system. How much this is an effect of that my Raidho X1 now passed 1000 hours and  as I feel finally are broken in, I do not know?
Otherwise more analogue with more clarity without any forced signature. I have a feeling that the sound/music has less brake on it!

I am using Jplay6 at the moment which is less bright or harsh than the other playback solutions I have. One is MPD with upmpd. The other is a Touch served from LMS. I use JRiver DLNA for Jplay and MPD. All is connected with USB. I'll try the Touch and MPD and report back.

Interesting the range of feedback so far, seems mostly positive with a few not liking it. I'll give it a try again and try speaker positions etc, but from my previous test I really hope 7.1.3 doesn't become the new firmware.

I'd never really thought about what happens in the event firmware sounds worse (to that user). I'd only ever thought about the firmware idea being good and bringing continuous improvement, but of course improvement to some might be deteriation to others. In a way it's a shame the firmware and sound signatures aren't separate, so that one wouldn't have to lose new features to preserve an older sound signature, but I guess they are fairly firmly intertwined.

Good points. If it turns out I must use Jplay (or any specialised player) with 7.1.3 to enjoy the sound I'd agree it is 'too much'. I guess the purpose of beta status is to test the firmware with real users. I do not think Devialet would want to release a firmware many users dislike.

maybe the sonic changes are different depending on the used input. I'm using AIR wireless and I think it is a good improvement. Maybe USB is a different thing...

I agree on your conclusion to the new sound, I dont know how many hours I have on my Focal but I dont think it is as many as you have on your X1 but I consider my Focals broken in so any changes to the sound must come from the Devialet.

I am noticing that SAM has a lesser effect on my Sasha 2s with this new beta. Or rather toggling between the two the difference seems less pronounced. Could it be that the bass now has a little less weight, with both SAM on and off? I'm not sure. On some material I notice that there is more tonal texture in the lower registers (i.e. more information), but on other material (primarily electronic) the bass seems less defined, softer even? But even then it seems to vary from recording to recording. I am beginning to see why we might be getting different interpretations. I think the bass has changed.

Overall I still think that 7.1.3 is the most musical I have heard from my Devialet.

It will be interesting to see if this is in fact part (or all!) of the new 8.0 release.

Oh - I'm using an AES/EBU input from an external streamer.

why do you think we get an 8.0 firmware ? Maybe it will only be the 7.1.3. or maybe a 7.2. For me this unexpected SQ improvement is more important than may be a new functionality that I don't need, e.g. DSD playback. Of course every new functionality is welcome as long as this SQ improvement stays...

"Devialet Firmware 8.0 is coming"  tells us an advertisment of Devialet in "Stereo 6/15" magazine in Germany.

All my feedback is Air (eth).
I imagine everything plays a part, like most things hifi, and the net result with new firmware will be specific to each persons source, cables, speakers, room, taste, etc. Brightness is a real problem for me - both my room and my sensitivity to it - so I preferred 7.1.1. I certainly didn't need anything more forward or detailed or crisper or whatever.

My guess is any change will never result in 100% satisfied customers - too many variables - but in this case it seems generally preferred so I'm probably going to be one of the unlucky ones ;-(

But I do think the treble is a bit thin in 7.1.1 so once the final firmware is released if it addresses this (for me) I imagine I'll try and accommodate it.

What I've also learnt over the past months of system juggling is that it takes me a surprisingly long time to adjust to a new sound, so a few hours certainly isn't enough to know for sure how well it will sit in my setup long term. If they end up releasing it that is!
