We already have great sounding amps. From experience and as many enthusiasts will also testify, new is not always better! I certainly won't be upgrading and parting with any of my money until I have heard the new and old side by side and tried it in my own living space and I would encourage you to do the same. Only your ears (and wallet size) can decide if it's worth the paying the extra!
Devialet 250 Firmware 10.1 SAM 100% (USB & AIR Ethernet) Wilson Audio Duette (MK1), REL S3, Innuos Zenith 2TB SSD, Roon, Audioquest Diamond & Chord Epic Reference. Qobuz & Tidal.

I think my source is reliable but you never know whether the Devialet team will change their strategy in the end. Just that the internals are identical, unless they are changing the case or making the upgraded boards somehow different they should be the same. The OdA has a copper bottom plate so I guess they could add that to the 800 which would obviously cost more.

i am an optimist, and take the 200's first uploader train. if my 120 become a 200, it is it's third life. because i bought it the day devialet turn the 110 into 120. i am quiet sure the devialet's team would be carefull, and i hope they don't want to hurt their customers. i love my d110 , d120 and may be D200. i 'am proud of this winning french factory.
d120 ensemble, mac mini ssd, sota moonbeam 2, sonos connect.

Hello, i'm new on this forum but I've read it for a long time.
As introducing myself, I'd say I own a Devialet 200 since november 2003 with bw 805d2 actually playing on klipsch r15m for space reasons (temporary back to my parents home) I play through usb since i didn't get good results with ethernet (white noise) nor with air wifi (plenty of dropouts) I think it is really bad devialet still hasn't corrected air problem. I also had noise problem from speakers when using dev in bypass mode for hometheater application. I didn't try with fw 9.0 cause my installation is in its packaging waiting for new home. By the way, my opinion for the upcoming uprade is that I'm interested but 1500-2000€ would be the maximum i'd pay, if more expensive, i'd keep it in its actual version

Those prices are indeed too high.

If those prices are legit why would anyone upgrade a 200. I would rather buy another 200 for a 400.

If your thinking is correct, I have concerns with Devialet's market strategy. I have no doubt as to the intelligence, fantastic design and sheer musicality of these products but if they intend to further raise their price point to imply a greater level of exclusivity they are simply wrong. Dealerships in Canada are dropping the line, its idiosyncracies too tough for the average stick up their bum audiophile. ;-) and not easily understandable nor available to the design motivated arts crowd (think B&O) when quality of music may not be such a priority... |
