Lots of smiley faces Guillaume. Must be good! I wouldn't have thought the extra power would have much of an impact on 92dB sensitive speakers. You must be cranking it up!

Congratulations.

Cheers Pim! Keith Howard at HFN measured 1.1 ohms at 72Hz so quite a punishing load.

WOW! I guess you'll need it then. 900Watts... Enjoy!

I completely agree. Mine haven't actually arrived yet, at the moment I have my dealer's unit. They have very kindly leant me theirs until mine ships which probably won't be till the end of the month.

On the subject of power, impedance ratings of speakers etc I know IanG-UK has a pair of Magico Q1s which don't apparently dip below 4 ohms and he is hearing similar things. So I think we have to assume it isn't just about raw power. I know when I spoke to Mathieu at Devialet he mentioned that they had managed to reduce distortion even further which was his explanation for some of the improvements we are hearing. He is also of the opinion that you can never have too much power. I know that the output impedance which was already vanishingly low has dropped further to 0.9 mR and that this is now maintained across much higher power outputs (over 1kW). It's a shame that Devialet don't publish these new measurements.

So yes even when I play classical music at low volumes I am hearing improved timbres of instruments. It is just more "natural" sounding.

Last night was fun blasting music at ridiculous SPLs, like I said it was effortless.

Yes I think the 800W v 900W doesn't tell the story.

My recollection from A level Physics was that 800W to 8000W gave the perception of a doubling of power and if that is the case then 800W to 900W is trivial.

I suspect it is an improvement in other areas which gives the aural impression of huge extra reserves of power but that is certainly one of the differences I noted with the Od'A compared with the 800, along with a denser/more detailed sound and (most markedly) better spacial recreation of the musical event.

Does anyone have a reference on the tuning of SAM ?

'Confused' kindly explained me the following : "One point to note regarding SAM.  SAM at 0% is still on, the 0% relates to the amount of bass boost, effectively boosting the level of lower frequencies to compensate for the low frequency roll off of the speakers.  But at 0% the phase correction aspects of SAM still work in full, it is just the level of low frequency boost that is reduced to zero."

But I have not found any reference about that. Any comment on this ?
