Hi - can anyone advise me - I just want to check that the Phantom Classic I have purchased is definately the 1200 version and not the earlier one.
There is nothing on the box (that I can see) to indicate its the 1200w version - I have no reason to doubt the company I purchased this from but I like to be certain!
If it helps the firmware updated itself to 1.14.1.3 when I started the setup process?

If it has the latest firmware it's the 1200w version. Does it have Airplay? If so, it has the ADH-2 chip with lower noise floor and the Devialet DAC.

If you have Airplay, you have ADH-2. I leave the Phantoms on all the time, I haven't noticed any difference.

Gold Phantom was introduced with AirPlay and ADH2.
‘White’ and ‘Silver’ Phantom started with ADH1, Wi-Fi and no AirPlay or Bluetooth. They then received a Bluetooth hardware update while keeping the ADH1 hardware. They later received a quiet Airplay hardware update while also keeping ADH1. Later, after the OTA performance firmware update in 2017 White and Silver Phantom received another hardware update to now include ADH2.
The only way to determine if your unit is a ADH2 unit is based on the serial numbers OR the packaging it comes in. ADH2 units come in the newly designed box where the power cable and the speaker are in separate packaging. The ADH1 units come in the older box where the power cable and speaker are already paired and in the same packaging.
All White/Classic Phantom, no matter if they’re ADH1, 2, or the very first original units without Bluetooth, all support and run the OTA performance update as well as the latest firmware release. They’re all capable of the claimed ‘1200 watts’ and 101dB. They’ve all always had the physical hardware to support this from day one.
There’s a unverified claim by Devialet that all three Phantom models have identical hardware now (apart from the Gold Phantom titanium tweeter) and are all capable of the same performance. So we could have a White Phantom output 108dB and ‘4500 watts’ with no issues. They’re just software locked based on the hardware embedded serial number. A way to make big margins on the highest end speakers. Which is why the Gold is what they push the hardest.
This makes sense when you look at Phantom Reactor. They’re both identical in every way. Only software locked to their separate performance claims.

Last time I checked my (old) White Phantom it was 45W standby. It's about time they introduced a proper 1W standby mode!

It remembers all its settings after mains power removed, except the volume, which is always 35 at power on.

There’s no problems in turning it off without holding the button unless you do it while music is playing.
Holding the button is supposed to be a way to shut it down safely, even if it’s playing music at the time.
It would be possible to add some functionality to firmware that would do this automatically after a certain amount of time. The only issue would be the long boot time every time you want to listen to some music, and possibly having to press the button every time to turn it back on. Seems inconvenient.
