Don’t know about the margins of the various brands in the HiFi industry, though they may be too far apart.
Anyway, in the end it’s about the price/value ratio for the consumer. For those able to compare products and put that in relation everyone can decide on their own.

The dealers in Japan appear to have a margin that is close to 50~60% of list price. Meaning that they pay what they sell less than half of local list price, at least in the 10,000~20,000 US$ list price bracket.

It may seem high but they have pretty high costs, give typically 10-20% discount, don’t sell expensive items that often so I guess they need that to make a decent to good living.
