I have a D200 being driven by ManMini/iTunes via AIR Ethernet: I am also noticing more sibilance... (just listened again to Diana Krall, A Case of You - quite noticeable)

I know what sibilant means…. I meant more the comment about it - I didn't understand it….
No sibilance with Diana Krall's A Case of You, stream from Sonos Connect via coax digital, FLAC quality.

Lets just say I'm sceptical when it comes to most "audiophile" opinions on things.  And maybe a little cynical as well by my post.

I am reading this thread backwards so have only just noticed that an example other than Ms Krall might have been in order.. )

I suppose a lot of us are (me included - although the level generally fluctuates from 'a bit' to 'a lot'), but to be fair to the sibilant poster - it didn't seem any more or less valid than any of the other comments ranging from 'airy' to 'naturalness' to 'analogue' or even my 'less-soft'. For non-audio professionals (most of us I imagine), it's very difficult to try and describe sound and share your perception of it.

I wasn't trying to call out or discredit the sibilant poster and I'm sorry if it was interpreted that way.  My comment was in general that the poster was the first to find something they didn't like about the beta firmware when there was a sea of praise that covered every audiophile description know to man prior.  Your compiled list was enjoyable.

The sceptical/cynical me likes to replace phile with fool on occasion.
Well, I'm no forum police, I was just curious.

So it begs the question, has everyone just jumped on the bandwagon, or is the reason there's only one slight negative of 'sibilance' because the sound has actually improved. There will be a lot of blushes if not. I know on another forum they think these comments are all mad…..
Surely the issue with these firmware updates is that Devialet must do them with the intention that they improve the accuracy/efficiency/reliability/flexibility of the unit and that, based on their listening, things sound excellent.

I should think there is some statistical analysis around which reveals that 60% of change is heard as an improvement, 30% is heard as no change and 10% is heard as a worsening - even if there is really no "change" at all.

I'm entirely happy that the new firmware makes the Devialet sound great. And it sounded great with the old firmware. To my ears.

I just load it up an enjoy it and, if pushed, would admit that any discriminatory skills I might claim would not stand up to scrutiny under test. But I am entirely happy with those who feel the firmware is an improvement, because they enjoy it too.
I didn't try it yet but on another thread there were claims that the December release of the previous firmware sounded better than the August release, only for someone to prove that the two were bit for bit the same...
