Excuse my ignorance, but what is the lightning app you have mentioned? (other also have mentioned it but I can't seem to find anything on it)

Lightning app is Auralics app to control their Aries models.
Well good news if you go the Aries route, looks like they will have Roon integration for 2 of the 3 Aries offerings shortly. Though you will still need another system to run Roon Core.

EDIT - This seems out of context now because I didn't quote original posted and the question has since been answered.

I actually do have a Auralic Aries Mini, so will certainly try out the Roon integration when it is released at some point in the future. Unfortunately the Mini will only output DSD via its USB output unlike its bigger siblings.

Ah thanks.
Something not related to sound , just wanted to share
Today I updated my D800 to 9th firmware , I have Master D250 that was upgraded from d-primer and new D250 as a companion , on a master usually updating firmware taking a minute or a little more , and since I only recently bacame a happy D800 owner and On a newer unit I didn't had a chance to update the firmware , today I did it for the first time.
so the thing is it's been updated so quick , a couple of seconds and done ,
maybe newer models of D250 have faster rom chipset ?
Maybe from all that excitement I lost sense of time ?

PS. Till now really like the new firmware , and My new D800 that finally doing magic with my speakers.
you can't update 2 Devialets from the same SD Card. After the first amp has been updated it is deleting some files. If you use this card in the second amp it is updating fast but in fact it is not updating anything. YOu have to copy all files again to the sd card before you update the second amp. Maybe this was the problem ?
It will also take more than a minute on a 250 if it works.

Vivialet, thanks a lot for your answer , I totally forgot about files been deleted
If I wouldn't share I would sit till next firmware update with 2 units where only one is updated Smile
Now after I did the correct update of two units I think bass that was already good became more defined and precise.
Thanks again.

PS. Before updating the second unit I checked its menus when it was acting as separate D250 and I it was 9th firmware.

This is correct, during the firmware update the Devialet will delete a file, this is so you can have both the firmware and the configuration on one card.  First the firmware is loaded, the file is deleted so the firmware is not reloaded, then the Devialet can pick up the configuration from the same SD card.

As an alternative for dual mono, you can load the firmware onto one SD card, lock the card to prevent the file deletion, and then use this card to update the firmware on both amplifiers.  This appears to work OK.  Then use separate SD cards for the configuration.

Thanks , another great advice
Did do some further comparison between 813 and 901 and here is what i found in my chain:

901
- Better articulated and controlled although slimmer Bass
- less hall in mids (and by that more direct soundstage)
- Better Stage presentation although more distance to stage than in 813

Bottom line to me is that SAM Implementation - once again - seems to significantly have changed with 901. Ultimately a matter of taste and for me have decided to give 901 a few more days of testing
Yesterday I thought I was done with 9 and would revert to my trusty 7.1.1.

But I thought I'd give it an extended tryout as it sounds quite different so might take some more getting used to.

Tonight I'm thinking I might keep it a bit longer. Whether or not that means I like it or I'm just bored worrying/obsessing about it, I'm not sure. Undecided

For what it's worth I perceive it to be louder than 7.1.1 by 4-5db on the dial. MUCH Deeper bass and more of it in the depths, yet thinner in terms of the 'thump' (I'm guessing less bass in the 100hz area), and a treble that is somehow more exciting and in your face but at the same time smoother if that makes any sense at all.

Hopefully when I set Dirac back up it kind of won't really matter.
