Hello there, i have two reactors 900.
I can buy now a secondhand phantom gold(first only one, maybe later one more for stereo)
But is the sound quality realy that big?Or is it only subtle between the reactors and the gold?

Gold is a three way speaker with a mid range driver. Reactor is a two way design where much of the lower mids comes from the bass drivers. Even if one has equal sound level from a Gold and a Reactor in a stereo set up, the two would sound very different. You might do a little better if you used something like Dirac or Audiolense (or one of the other solutions) to correct the odd pair, but the result will never be as good as two identical speakers in a stereo setup.
Another thing is you'd have some difficulties getting only L to one side and only R to the other.

Thx for the reply.
So the gold will for sure sound better?Even at low volume?Because the reactor has a loudness compesation what the golds dont have..

I am sure the Gold is a better speaker, but in the context of stereo it is the difference between the two that will be the main problem. I do not own either so I cannot comment on the behaviour at low levels.

Having both Reactor 900s and Golds, I would say it depends on the music and the quality of the source. I've found that the Reactors are surprisingly good speakers and can hold their own pretty well. Only when I do critical listening using a high quality source and with material that I know extremely well is when I find the Reactors lacking.
