Yeah, I thought so, too, until I compared real life picture comparisons between the 98 and 108.

It seems that maybe there is a typo in the descriptions, at the Devialet website.

The 98 is the one with one driver for mid and highs.

That's not correct.

Please take a look here for comparison with the 98 and specifications:

Thanks, probably Reactor got in my way

According to Customer Service at Devialet:

the new Phantom Ultimate series is intended to replace the previous Phantom I and Phantom II ranges. Devialet has simplified their line-up to two distinct models: the Phantom Ultimate 98 dB and the Phantom Ultimate 108 dB.

an "Optical Direct" mode is also available on both models and lower latency is mentioned here, but the analog input on the 98dB seems to be gone. There is no mention of how to enter "Optical Direct" mode so let us hope for a menu setting in the app.
At some point in the future the "Custom" versions for integrators will be based on the new Ultimate models. We can hope that the input module for both is inherited from the current Phantom II Custom, i.e. Dante, AES/EBU (balanced) or mono analog (balanced).

EDIT: seems the information I got from Customer Service at Devialet regarding Optical Direct was wrong. At least the Ultimate 108 dB will not have a Optical Direct mode. I suspect the smaller Ultimate 98 dB will not have it either.

I think delay is there → it's essential for them to do sound processing "ahead of time" for SAM to work. Some part of delay could be attributed to connectivity, that has improved, so probably number could be lower.

latency or delay has been a topic of interest.

Subjectively:
for the Ultimate 98 - very crude visual/audio test - can i use it to watch online videos = yes.
for playing back video on a PC don't notice any obvious sync issues but its not perfect and can blame the playback environment and content as much as the speaker system.
its better than my cable TV is on some programming from a a/v sync perspective and better than bluetooth - but those are low bars.

more objectively - i seem to find  about 10-20ms delay in one test and 60-80 ms in a different test - very much an UN-calibrated and rude test- im kind of particular and distracted by bad lip sync but don't notice it for my use video use cases. (non-theater-more casual)

i am hearing. encountering some bad sync trying to get dos 2 and dos 3 systems to play music together but its not a good fair test unless i eliminate the dialog and use the SPDIF optical input on the gold pair to match the optical input on the ultimate 98, and to do that i'd have to take them off the wall.... so may not happen soon... Wink
