Expert Pro Turns On Unexpectedly
#31
@chrno242 ,

I haven't gone back over this whole thread but my feeling is that the problem being discussed here was occurring much more sporadically and at more irregular intervals than within 5-10 minutes of turning the amp off and tha it was an Expert Pro problem rather than an Expert problem which could be very important since the Expert Pro has the CI board which handles network connections and the Expert does not have that board.

I don't have an answer for you and I'm not certain that anything in this thread will be of value to you. The problem may even be something in someone else's home, I once had a problem with my air conditioning system changing temperature and room settings seemingly randomly. The serviceman discovered it was picking up signals from a wifi remote connected to someone else's air conditi0ning system nearby.

I'd ask Devialet support if they have any suggestions but if they don't then you can try switching off other network connected devices one at a time before turning your amp off in order to see if the problem stops when some other device is turned off or, alternatively, go for the brute force solution of turning the power to your amp off at the wall after you turn the amp off.

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

@chrno242,

I concur with @David A, in my recollection it was also much more sporadic, random and hard to reproduce (in a known timeframe).

The workaround I applied is that my 220 pro ci was only turning back on when I had powered it off completely: long press on the power button of the remote turning the screen off. If I was turning it off via only a short press of the power button (the screen remains on) the amplifier was not turning back on and this is what I have been using since.

Strangely, this has just started happening in my system as of yesterday evening and is very annoying. My amps are being woken up every 10-15 minutes, whether they were put to sleep by a medium or long press on the front panel button, or by the remote control. It's definitely to do with Apple TV: it occurs when the Apple TV is running or when it has been "powered off" by its remote control, but does not happen when I disconnect mains power from it. As far as I can tell the Apple TV did not take a software update yesterday so I have no idea why it's suddenly started doing this. There are no other recent changes to my network.

At the moment I don't have a reasonable work-around that doesn't involve completely removing mains power from either the Devialets or the Apple TV, both of which are quite inconvenient.

I'm happy to do some more experiments if anyone would like to suggest them.

Happy Christmas, everyone!

One experiment I can think of would be to disconnect the Apple TV or the Devialet from the network and see if it is still happening.

It it stops that way, it would be hinting at network probes and one solution could be to put the two devices on different VLANs with no direct routing between the two.

Merry Christmas,

Thanks for the suggestion, @Jean-Marie, I'll try that.

By way of an update: I noticed the Apple TV has a setting "Airplay & Apple Home" -> "Peer-to-Peer Wireless" which was enabled.  I believe this setting is only present if the Apple TV has a hard-wired Ethernet connection, and it enables devices to connect directly to the Apple TV without being on the main network.  If I understand correctly, it uses Bonjour as a discovery mechanism which of course uses network probes.  As an experiment, I disabled this and - after an hour or so - my Devialet hasn't woken up again.  Fingers crossed.

If that continues to work, it might be a good-enough solution for me.  Alternatively it might suggest that disabling the Devialet's wi-fi interface might stop the unexpected waking-up.

In case it's relevant, I forgot to mention that my Apple TV is running tvOS 26.1.

(Full disclosure - I also changed the batteries in the Devialet's remote control, thereby breaking the first law of debugging by changing two things at once.)

As long as the problem is resolved for you, it’s what Matt most.

My Apple TV too is connected via Ethernet and was when I was having the issue and "Peer-to-Peer Wireless" is and was also activated.
