I think that we need a bit of positivity here.
As a D1000 Pro CI owner who was one of the 100 first DPremier customer in the world, and who know owns a super high quality system based on a finely optimized AES/EBU connection using the best clock on the planet... I am happy to see that Devialet is still working on the Expert line.
Do I feel like upgrading? No. The lack of AES/EBU is a clear show stopper for me, but I believe that the new line may nonetheless be important for the company and deliver good value for new entrants who do not have a system in place, or at least not a system as linked to a certain technology/connectivity as mine is.
The key questions to me are how good the sound will be, how stably the amplifier will behave as part of a system, how easy it will be use, maintain and upgrade.
Devialet does still IMHO have the best sound technology on the market. Price is high but high-end segment prices have pretty much doubled during the past 10 years. All the high performance solutions are expensive.
In this context, I hope the new Expert line helps them strive and deliver value to more new entrants. I do hope they have a solid plan to keep their clients happy, which would of course need to include delivering better on their commitments than they did in the past, be more approachable to establish a real love mark whose clients will happily and confidently promote the brand to their best friends.
Cheers,
Bernard
