Was it to avoid the transition to happen in the 300 to 3k Hz band where our hearing is the most sensitive, or was this because of other considerations not visible in a simple graph?

Better late than never!
I thought that thanks to AIs I could finally check that famous 350 Hz crossover.
So I fed the crossover schematic to them, and the super data centers were clear:
‘The crossover frequency is approximately 1.5–2 kHz.’
Which indeed seems much more logical!
