They were going already down to 34 Hz (mine were 33.4) and with SAM yours are now doing down to 21 Hz (mine are 20 Hz). Both are two ways floor standing with a similar sized mid/woofer.

Did you try switching it on and off while playing?

On my speakers, the change is subtle and definitively not a bass boost. Even in some circumstances, it has slightly reduced the impression of bass by removing some resonance that were artificially bloating them.

But if you are listening to a pipe organ piece with 16 feet pipes you should definitely hear a difference.

Also on a different musical style, something like Partition from Beyonce or Limit to your Love from James Blake are good songs to check the difference with and without SAM. (Be careful without SAM while playing limit to your love. There are infra basses that without the protection of SAM could damage your speakers if you listen at too high a volume....)

Thanks Jean-Marie

I can hear the lower bass extension with SAM on that James Blake track. Guess there isn't much music that goes below 34HZ to notice any difference. I guess I was just expecting that SAM would make a difference to the quality of Bass across a range sub 200HZ but I'm not really hearing that. I am trying to switch SAM on and off as the tracks are playing. Maybe SAM just doesn't do that much with my particular speakers...

well SAM only works below 150 Hz I believe in terms of extensions. On the other hand it also equalizes the phase across the whole spectrum.

Again it depends on the speaker and how it was before. according the the graph or your speakers and mine before SAM they were already very good, therefore the improvement of SAM is more marginal than with speakers where the original graph is less accurate.

This being said, mine were amongst the 1st to be SAMed and therefore I have been enjoying SAM for quite some time now. Passed the initial moments where you are really trying to see/show off SAM, you will enjoy its subtle effect and it will be impossible to revert....

Happy listening,

Jean-Marie
