there is a way to control volume without using spark or the devialet remote. However, it's a little complex if you're not a little computer savvy. And you need an iphone and an always on computer or raspberry pi on your network.

Using the homebridge plugin mentioned in post 25 I'm using my iphone and Siri to control the volume. You can also use the Home app in ios to do the same.
I can now say "Hey Siri set the Phantom to XX" where XX is the volume from 0 to 100. It works really well and the volume change is immediate.
