Roon RAAT and "An audio file is loading slowly"

I have a low spec roon core (synology ds216+ II w/ 4gb ram) and my experience has shown that if I output to the Devialet Air protocol, I have no issues at all, the system is able to convert dsd256, dsd128 with little or no issue at all (processing speed for dsd 128 ~ 8.0x / for dsd256 ~ 1.4x). However, if I use the roon RAAT protocol, dsd128 and dsd256 are impossible (processing speeds 0.9x and 0.4x respectively). 

Why is the conversion in RAAT more demanding than in AIR, I have no idea!...
