I dont believe its a proprietary thing from Apple - its a proprietary thing from Devialet. The Roon guys have clearly stated there is some conflict with the Mac version of AIR in exclusive mode, but without the help of Devialet there's very little they can do to debug it. Devialet don't provide any specs/documentation for AIR or the utility (unsurprisingly, otherwise everyone would be scrambling to copy it, desperate to get AIR streaming into their products….. ), don't seem willing to cooperate, and don't provide any equipment for Roon to test and try and find a workaround.
For what its worth, although non-exclusive mode isn't ideal, I wouldn't have thought it would restrict bitrate?
