Last time I tried it, which was nearly a year ago, it sounded awful; I think there was some kind of sync problem resulting in frequent, periodic, just-about-audbile glitches.
Why don't I just try it for myself? I'd need to arrange another Roon trial to find out for myself and there's little point in doing so if it's known not to work.
Thanks in anticipation...
I have been using Roon with AIR 3.0 RC and earlier version 3s since its existence and always with a dedicated ethernet cable and fixed IP. Additionally I had the signal passing Dirac Audio Processor before AIR. I must say it is a mixed impression. There are days when it just works perfectly well with no noise whatsoever and there are days when I had to switch to feeding my D800 through the XLR via Weiss Firewire and iTunes. The latter always worked fine and extremely clean. I also used Dirac>AIR>D800 both with iTunes and Roon and have the impression that with Roon the occasional noise is more likely than with iTunes.
I am not an IT person but my impression is that the AIR problem may have to do with caching, because after quitting and restarting AIR it mostly was better. Additionally it certainly has to do with other network processes like the Mac contacting a NAS etc. Then there may be a problem with Roon itself given the better performance with iTunes.
I am running OS 10.11.6, iMac 2015, the library is on the Mac drive.
I never tried the AIR wireless option.
